Good Dogs Go Home Adoption Policy

Thank you for considering a rescue from Good Dogs Go Home, hereafter referred to as GDGH. Rescue animals are for a caring home to give them a new start at a happy life. Good Dogs Go Home is a Wisconsin re-home which means that animals come from and are adopted out in Wisconsin.

Adoption fees will be required. The adoption fee for a dog in the GDGH foster care program is adjustable based on the animal’s needs and care. Discounts are available for 4-H families along with veterans, police, first responders, and their immediate family. Foster animals placed are spayed/neutered, current with vaccinations, and heartworm negative. For any reason you think the animal is not right for your family, the animal can be returned within 7 days for a full reimbursement.

When meeting a rescue animal, please try to spend as much time as possible with the animal to evaluate compatibility before making the decision to adopt. If you consider a distant adoption, please discuss the animal’s temperament, health, and transportation options thoroughly with the representative or foster home before making the decision to adopt the animal. In the best interest of yourself, your family, and the rescue animal please make certain that the animal you choose to adopt is right for you. Adoption is a big commitment!

It should be understood that applications for adopting an animal through Good Dogs Go Home are subject to acceptance based upon a review process that requires collecting information from an application, phone interview, vet and/or personal reference check, and a home visit. This information should be submitted, and this process completed, before you meet a rescue animal for adoption.

Making decisions about animal placement in adoptive homes is an “art”, not a “science”, and there might be times when applications will be denied for various reasons. This is left to the decision of the GDGH representative after reviewing all available information. GDGH reserves the right to make all decisions regarding placement of any rescue animal in its care into a foster or adoptive home. There is absolutely no guarantee, made or implied, that any person or persons requesting to adopt an animal being fostered through GDGH, or posted on GDGH’s web site, will be granted an adoption.

If something in your life changes which prevents you from caring for the animal you adopted, please contact us. If you need to move into another rented property, we would like an update of the landlord approval letter. If you cannot take care of the animal for any reason, we will take them back and rehome them. We ask that you do not sell the animal.

We suggest that all dog owners have a liability policy; for an aggressive breed of dog, this is a must. Please talk to your insurance agent about options. The animals do not have to be listed; they just cannot be omitted from the policy.

GDGH is aware of most laws regarding communities limiting animals, but it is the responsibility of the adoptive family to know if there is a law standing. i.e. No new pitbull laws in Waukesha Wisconsin.
Advice from GDGH is always free and available. Grooming, training, boarding, or vacation care is available through friends of GDGH.

We thank you for contacting GDGH on behalf of the many good dogs, cats, rabbits, gerbils, and other good animals in need of new homes and those rescue groups providing them adoption assistance.
